Summers Coming Up, Do You Know How To Swim?
Are you ready to go swimming?
Learning to swim is a great experience for anyone. Adults, children, and babies can all enjoy the water.
- Private lessons or group lessons are both great for anyone. It is your preference on which one you would like.
- In private lessons, you should see improvements almost each time they have a lesson
- A private lesson should only be 20-30 minutes in length.
- Sometimes group lessons help some children learn faster.
- Find an instructor who will push you/your child to your/his/her potential.
- Make sure the instructor actually is teaching, there are many instructors who really do not teach well.
- Take your time in the water, NEVER say I can't do it, because you can.
- People who have long hair, tie your hair back so you can swim.
- Wear appropiate swim attire. The best to wear is a racing suit for women and swim trunks for guys. Careful about see-thru stuff.
- Bring goggles to your lesson. Why have chlorene burn your eyes.
- The Ultimate Swim Company: My company which allows the student to learn how to swim one on one in the privacy of their own home. Contact Me.
- Check with Community Colleges, ask if they offer swim programs. Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys CA offers swim classes. The number is (818)947-2480, ask for Barbara. I work there so you can request me as the instructor.
- YMCA or YWCA -call information for the number
- John Burroughs High School Learn To Swim Program- In Burbank, California
Babies like to swim too! Enjoy the water with your baby this summer. Splashing around with your baby is a great bonding experience.
- Have the baby wear a swim diaper in the pool. The new Huggies swim diaper works great.
- Do not use arm floats on your child. Arm floats makes it harder to learn how to swim.
- With your baby in the water a fun thing to do is to make rain. Pick up water and drop it on eachother.
- Teach your baby to move around in the water, but never let them go.
- Blow bubbles together in the water
- Depending on the child's age and how they progress in the water, start moving their arms and legs, as stroking or kicking movements.
- Buy floating toys to play with in the pool. Be careful not to get anything that can choke the baby.
- Make this time fun for you and your child.
It is okay to fear the water, but now is the time to face your fear.
- Do not watch any scary water movies.
- Figure out what you are most afraid of about the water.
- Take baby steps, start going in the water to your waist and work on going deeper. Never go in the water alone.
- If you dislike water on your face then try putting water in your hands and then on your face.
- Practice blowing bubbles in the water.
- Tell yourself "I can do it", Be positive!!!
- Swim lessons available for kids and adults.
